Mrs. Beth Ivey, School Counselor
When is it appropriate for my child to see the School Counselor?
I interact with students on a daily basis for many reasons, frequently about things like friendship issues and conflict resolution. Other than that, a general rule of thumb is that if your child is experiencing some difficulty that is affecting his or her performance or behavior in school, then it is appropriate for a School Counselor to be involved. I can provide non-clinical support on a short-term basis and can then help you determine whether or not your child would benefit from follow up with an outside provider. If your child is having some sort of challenge that is affecting her or his behavior at home but not at school, I would be happy to consult with you, and provide resources as well as a reference to an outside provider.
